PRINCIPLES AND COMMITMENTS

MISSION STATEMENT

To assist parents as they continue home based-education in the high school years by providing a mechanism and a location for participation in classes taught by qualified instructors.

CORE PRINCIPLES

  1. We believe Jesus is Lord and in the Great Commission mandate.
  2. We value each student as a creation of God, worthy of love and respect for who they are in Christ.
  3. We are committed to providing a safe environment where students experience freedom to be who God has called them to be and to grow in their understanding of God's plan for their lives.
  4. We believe parents are solely responsible for the education of their children and serve as their primary educators.
  5. We believe the needs of the high school home-school community are better served when home-school families and support organizations work together.
  6. We believe in excellence in education as measured by students reaching their maximum potential in their personal and academic development.

STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT & BEHAVIOR

Specific Guidelines...

  1. While policies are established by the Steering Committee, classroom rules are determined by the instructor and will be clearly communicated to the students.
  2. The instructor is the final authority in the classroom and the Onsite Manager is the final authority inbetween classes and in study hall.
  3. The partnership between the student, parent, instructor, and Onsite Manager is one marked by encouragement and edification.
  4. Student behavior shall not be distracting to other students or staff of the hosting church.
  5. BUAC is held inside a church.  Students must conduct themselves with dignity and reverence appropriate inside a house of worship.
  6. No physical horseplay or running is allowed at any time before, during, between, or after classes.
  7. No shouting, loud music, or other disruptive noises/activities are allowed at any time during the BUAC day.
  8. Students are expected to respect the property of other students, the church, and its staff.
  9. Students should avoid activities endangering themselves/other students.
  10. Students must sign in and out of the church building.
  11. Students will not be permitted to "hang out" in the parking lot or in cars.
  12. Students must remain in designated areas inside and outside of the building.
  13. Students shall refrain from all public displays of affection.
  14. All speech should demonstrate respect for one another and honor God.

Dress Policy...

We encourage you to dress with the goal of modesty in a way that honors God and your fellow students.   Although we do not want to dictate how one defines this, the criteria we suggest is to avoid that which may offend or distract others from learning.  Below are guidelines of clothing to avoid...

Young Men...

  1. Sleeveles shirts unless worn underneath a sleeved shirt.
  2. Shirts that display messages or symbols that are profane, promote alcohol, drugs or sexual immodesty.
  3. The waistline of pants must be worn above the hips so underwear/shorts are not visible at the waist.

Young Women...

  1. Tight or revealing tops, bare midriff, sleeveles tops unless worn underneath a sleeved shirt.
  2. Short shorts or skirts, pants with waistlines below the hips showing underwear or midriff.
  3. Shirts with profane or inappropriate messages or symbols.

NOTE:  Students who arrive at BUAC dressed inappropriately (in the judgment of any instructor or the Onsite Manager) will be required to call home for a change of clothing or to cover up with additional clothing.
